Freshman college student investigated by local police department after another student alleged that she was raped while in the dormitory where both resided. Ian Friedman and Madelyn Grant requested that the lead detective afford them ten days to conduct a thorough defense investigation before presenting the matter to the Cuyahoga County Grand Jury. During the agreed upon time, the lawyers and private investigator gathered evidence including video surveillance, digital messages, social media posts, witness statements and evidence of prior false allegations that was then put into presentation format. Defense counsel met with the lead detective to provide all findings. Reconsideration by the detective and the prosecutor’s office resulted with a determination that the case would not be presented to the Grand Jury. The case was closed. The client was immediately notified and was permitted to finish the school year as scheduled.
