National Lecturers

Members of our attorney team are frequently called upon to lecture on criminal law to students and other lawyers at events and training seminars throughout the United States, and have authored and published many articles on criminal law. We are involved in educating and mentoring attorneys on a range of subjects related to defense law and Title IX. Mr. Friedman has taught as far as Rome, Italy. There, he taught law students about how to translate American courtroom skills into use in the Italian Justice System.

Improving Legal Standards

Having earned a reputation as one of the most dedicated and successful criminal trial firms in the country, we have been called on to represent other lawyers and judges in criminal proceedings – and these are professionals that know exactly what to look for when retaining counsel. Beyond representing our colleagues in the legal profession, we are fully dedicated to upholding and increasing the standards for all who serve in the justice system, and in protecting the rights of the criminally accused.

As an example of our focus on fair treatment for those facing criminal charges, during the period in which attorney Ian Friedman served as President of the Cleveland Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, he worked to change the rules under which evidence was presented in state courts, to reduce the potential for wrongful conviction. This effort resulted in the passage of new Cleveland Criminal Rule 16, also known as “Open Discovery.” This new law, which helped to eliminate trials by ambush, became law on July 1, 2010.

With Mr. Friedman’s initiative leading to a significant change in Cleveland criminal procedure, defendants and their attorneys are now entitled to have access to the evidence prior to going to trial. This effort reflects our entire firm’s approach to seeking justice for defendants, and is the motivating force behind all that we do for our clients, in each and every case we take on.

We are skilled trial lawyers, and we think “outside of the box” when crafting a defense case. We have been known to employ unconventional methods to make a significant point to a jury. We have re-created crime scenes in the courtroom, as an example.
