Bio

Madelyn has been passionate about the criminal justice system and the practice of criminal defense from a young age. She watched and admired her father, David Grant, as he built a successful and well-respected criminal defense practice in Cleveland, Ohio. Madelyn set her sights on following in his footsteps. She is well acquainted with the injustices that are inherent in our criminal justice system and has always aspired to be a trusted and powerful advocate for her clients as they navigate through it.

She has litigated criminal matters in state and federal courts throughout the county. Her acute knowledge of the law and passion for the criminal justice system provides her clients with a unique and effective approach to combating the most difficult cases.

Madelyn honed her litigation skills and knowledge of criminal law while interning and clerking for two Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas Judges as well as the Cuyahoga County Public Defender’s Office. Since joining the practice, she has litigated criminal matters in state and federal courts throughout the country.

As an Adjunct Professor of Cybercrime at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, Madelyn has a comprehensive understanding of the intricate nature of cyber offenses which is necessary to attack these highly complex and technologically-focused criminal cases. During her time with the firm, she has gained valuable insight as to how technology can shape the complicated landscape of criminal and civil litigation.

Madelyn is also well versed in the most effective approaches to successfully face child pornography matters, cases of sexual assault, and matters stemming from stings conducted by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. She has a thorough and well-rounded understanding of how to strategically and aggressively defend these cases from the point of investigation through trial. Her acute knowledge of technology and passion for the criminal justice system provides our clients with a unique and effective approach to combating the most difficult cases.

Madelyn understands the significant and heartbreaking impact that criminal prosecutions can have on the lives of clients and their loved ones. She takes great pride in ensuring that all of her clients are afforded the most zealous representation possible.

Outside of the courtroom, Madelyn dedicates her time and effort to improving the legal community. She, along with her colleagues at Friedman Nemecek & Long, L.L.C, partnered with Abortion Fund Ohio to create the Legal Access Program for abortion seekers & reproductive healthcare workers. This program provides free, confidential legal assistance and referrals to pro-bono counsel as well as advice regarding self-managed abortion, young peoples’ access to abortion, and judicial bypass. Madelyn is the current President Elect of the Cuyahoga County Defense Lawyers Association as well as an active member and the outgoing Chair of the Young Lawyers Section of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association. She also serves as a coach for the CSU College of Law Moot Court Team where she spends months working with students as they prepare for competitions across the county.

While she is not in the office, Madelyn enjoys staying physically active and spending time with her family and friends.
